Our science and technology section is currently under development. Here we will present overviews of our core technolgies that underpin Brainwave-Discovery and white papers on background science.

Science

Neurodegeneration models (white paper). Here we review the key breakthroughs in neurodegeration research that position Drosophila as a particulary exciting prospect. In summary, many key indications are reproduced more faithfully in terms of both molecular mechanism and phenotype in the invertebrate model than they are in the industry standard rodent models (read pdf).

Synapse Biology (in progress). Following the study by Emes et al (2008) we know have the first evolutionary comparison of synpase proteomes between invertebrate and vertebrate nervous systems. The key conclusions of this study reveal that all share a commonly derived molecular core onto which phyla specific innovations have been elaborated.
